About Burley

Burley is every bit a traditional, tranquil new Forest village. Nestling in the lea of a hill surrounded by picturesque beauty, you can enjoy walking, cycling, riding, or if a real country experience is what you're after, take a tractor safari ride in Burley Park to see the red dear! Mingle with the Ponies and cattle as they roam freely around the ancient forest tracks used for centuries by Commoners and their livestock. With its old thatched cottages tucked away, gift shops, home made fudge, tearooms, art galleries, pick-your-own farm, cider farm and 16th century pub (notorious for being a hideaway for smugglers after locals discovered a hidden cellar full of pistols, bottles and coins) this quirky village is steeped in history and oozes bags of character. Burley is more commonly known for its witchcraft. Tale be told that In the late 1950s a 'white' witch named Sybil Leek, wearing a black cloak and accompanied by her pet jackdaw used to roam around the village. To this day you can see her picture hanging above the old Jacobean fireplace in one of the many enchanting gift shops this village has to offer. The perfect Halloween destination! Experience the magic of Burley, a beautiful, quaint place to remember (oh, and if you visit in the summer time don't forget to try their delicious ice cream that offers every topping you could possibly think of!)
