About Poole Old Town & Quay

Founded back in 1497, this historic harbour prospered mainly between the late 1600’s to 1815, where it became a haven for the salt fishing trade. Evidence of this wealth is apparent when viewing the magnificent Georgian houses and public buildings. To this this day it remains a haven for a vast number of seafarers, including passenger boats, who have been operating from the quay since 1995. They offer trips to local beauties such as Brownsea Island and Jurassic coastline. The quay is a lively hub of activity, especially in the summer months. Boasting two museums, one in a medieval port building and the other, a lifeboat museum. The lifting bridge goes back to 1927, don’t worry it's regularly maintained. This along with a tremendous selection of shops, restaurants and bars makes this a favourite outing for all.
